By Elmer Josephson
"Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob" (Psalm 114:7).
[Editors Note: Elmer was called home in 1996, but he had begun to see beyond his earthly life, the big change bursting upon us today.]
A TREMENDOUS CHANGE is taking place in Gods providential movements among the nations. The Almighty is taking the "cup of trembling" that the Jews have been drinking so long and is putting it into the hands of Gentile nations (Isaiah 51:22-23).
Lets not be as the dumbness attributed to the ostrich who when it comes into trouble, hides its head and eyes in the sand and believes that act of hiding cancels all coming certain tragedy and death.
Gods pendulum, that swung from the Jews to the Gentiles with the Babylonian captivity in 587 BC, is now swinging back to His ancient people Israel. In the following passages: the prophet speaking of this day, declares that the Gentile nations are to be judged.
The prince of prophets, Isaiah, writes in chapter 24:
V. 1, "Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste and turneth it upside down and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof" refugees, droughts, famines, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc.
V. 4, "The EARTH mourneth and fadeth away; the WORLD languishes and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish...." When there is a persistent resistance to the will, the Law and the Word of God, He finally withdraws His Spirit of long-suffering.
V. 5, "The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof [pollution of water, soil and atmosphere] because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant." By and large, man has rejected Gods eternal Word and irrevocable laws, and since the divine Word is unbreakable, man breaks himself over it. God proclaimed His Covenant with Abraham and his seed (Gen. 17) "everlasting", but man has discounted and attempted to replace it.
V. 20, "The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard and shall be removed like a cottage and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall and not rise again." Gentile governments, including our own USA, are becoming more and more confused and unable to deal with problems.
V. 21, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones [in governmental offices] that are on high. and the kings of the earth [national rulers] upon the EARTH."
V. 23, "Then...the LORD of hosts shall reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously" Messianic people.
Nations who think they can double-cross Israel because she is so small, forget Israels Covenant God is The Creator, The Eternal One and through Him their Davids slay Goliaths.
Gods answer and the next prophetic step in solving the worlds dilemma is the return of "the whole house of Israel" to Eretz Israel (land of Israel) Ezekiel 37:11; 39:25.
To the mountains He says, "I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded" (Ezekiel 36:10).
"Then shall they know that I am the LORD their GOD. . . I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there" (Ezekiel 39:28).
For this cause, in the sovereignty of the faithful Creator, He will allow the breaking up of the nests of His people around the world. It will seem cruel but He wants His people to "fly" back to the land which He will make the guiding light of the nations. (Read again Genesis 12:1-3; Micah 4:1-7; Isaiah 66:19; Zechariah 14.)
The present spirit of lawlessness is not only anti-Jewish but anti-Christ (Rev. 12:7). We who believe on Him are interrelated with Abrahams seed as Paul writes, "If ye be Christs then are ye Abrahams seed and heir according to the promise." And as Jesus declared, "Salvation is of the Jews" (John 4:22).
Lawlessness will increase and come to power on a world scale. It will seem to bury Israels hope and the true Spirit of Messiah (Daniel 12; II Thes. 2:11-7; Rev. 13:5-18).
All will appear dark and hopeless when Jerusalem seems to fall into the hands of the enemy (Zechariah 14:1-2), but the long awaited Messiah of Israel will appear with glory and power. He will be, as the Hebrew prophet declares, the revelation of the Mighty God. "Then shall the LORD go forth and fight against those nations as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives . . . And the LORD shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall there be one LORD and his name one" (vs. 3, 4 & 9). All doubts will fade away and the mystery will be solved.
He will then in swift succession fulfill every prophecy regarding his messiahship and set up his throne in Jerusalem and a United World Congress under His own sovereign domain. This world will then enter the Messianic era, a thousand years of righteousness, peace and prosperity, such as this planet has never known. What the enemies of Israel thought would be sure death and burial of Israel (as well as of the true Church) will end in the spiritual resurrection of the whole world and the establishing of the light of the nations (Isa. 49:6).
The Almighty is setting the stage for world redemption. He will let mankind see the final collapse of all clever but ungodly systems.
We must also call to Jacobs descendants, "MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND; Get thee out of thy country . . . to the land of Israel the center of world redemption. We pray this shall be rightly interpreted in the light of Gods sovereign will and prophetic fulfillment.
Here, in this Holy Land, the Lord God will give the promised spiritual latter rain, another mighty Pentecost, as He declared through the Prophet Zechariah (12:10).
In this lawless age, governments do topple, sometimes very suddenly by violence and sometimes by deception. Dams are breaking. Many times precious lives are lost as in the Nazi Holocaust.
There can be the loss of all possessions. When Cuba confiscated all holdings, the only possessions Jews retained were their Israel Bonds. Those who invest in Israel have Gods blessing. -
Of Great Concern: Who really is Christ? Messiah? The Anointed One? This is important because Jesus said, "Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Fathers, and of the holy angels" (Luke 9:26).
Why is any believer ashamed? Because (1) There is a tendency to soft pedal Him in places where He is not popular: (2) And even more importantly, in places where He is "popular", he is often presented in a pagan way. He is portrayed, displayed and betrayed. The true Christ is twisted and resisted.
