Open Letter to the U.S. President
By John Stembridge
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
“And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not life up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2:2-4).
Shalom Mr. President,
First, I want to commend you for going recently to some of the poorest people on earth. Hopefully your challenge to them will bring hope and a real possibility for justice, health, peace, educational and economic stability. I wish you success on this mission.
Secondly, Mr. President, the central purpose of this letter is to warn you in your meeting with Syria’s President Assad of the following:
A. Syria is a rogue terrorist state. Your own intelligence has informed you of the 747’s loaded with arms arriving in Syria from Iran for the Hizbullah terrorists in Lebanon. These arms are used against Israel and the Christians in Lebanon.
B. It was Syria who invaded Lebanon to murder and overthrow the largest Christian nation in the Middle East.
C. It was Prime Minister Begin who sent Israel’s military under Ariel Sharon into Lebanon in 1982 to deliver itself and the Lebanese Christians from these Syrian invaders and Hizbullah terrorists. It was not the Vatican in Rome or the Phanar in Istanbul who came to the aid of the Lebanese Christians experiencing genocide from Syria and Iran. If anyone withdraws first from Lebanon, it should be the Syrian forces, not Israel. A Jewish friend told me recently, “As soon as Israel withdraws from Lebanon, the Lebanese Christians will once again be toast in the hands of the Hizbullah, Syria and Iran.” Mr. President, don’t let this blood be on your hands.
D. Mr. President, do not tempt Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights with billions of dollars from your overburdened, over-taxed American taxpayers in order to appease a ruthless dictator who will not withdraw from Lebanon and who will not honor any peace agreement with Israel.
