The Secret Place of Thunder
3rd Temple Mysteries
By Chris Josephson
“You called [when in] in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder….” (Psalm 81:7
Israel had just come out of Egypt – and were anticipating their own country and kingdom. But they weren’t prepared for the Kingdom until they received the Laws for the Kingdom. God thundered these down from Mount Sinai. He answered their need in this ‘secret place of thunder.’ “And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightenings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled” (Exodus 19:16).
In the last book of the Bible, thunder announces the opening of the seals of THE BOOK: “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see” (Rev. 6:1).
Thunder also accompanied the revealing of the 144,000 “firstfruits” of redemption in chapter 14:1-5, “And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder. . . .” (verse 2:).
There are more thunders during the time of the sounding of the sixth angel, as we learn from Revelation 10:3,4, “…seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.”
The passage goes on to say, V. 7, “But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.” This verse shows that the 7 thunders have to do with culminating the mystery, and is charged with a a challenge to learn something!
Who doesn’t love a mystery? Are you old enough to remember the golden days of radio when “I Love A Mystery” was popular? As a small child listening, I thought they were saying “Isle of a Mystery”. Now, that I understand something of God’s mystery “to the isles” (far off coasts of the earth), even this memory takes on significance. There IS a mystery that has reached out to the four corners of the earth, and continues to do so. It includes the Gospel of Peace which declares a universal redemption by the Sovereign God of Israel (Isaiah 52:7-10, etc.). The doctrines of the so-called New Age are a poor imitation.
During the sounding time of the 6th angel’s trumpet (Rev. 10), SEVEN thunders utter their voices. But their message is sealed and the mystery not revealed until the 7th angel begins to sound.
Seven is the number of completion, of perfection. But what are those 7 thunderous voices? Since thunder accompanied the giving of the Law of God, ponder this with me: Do these 7 thunders have to do with instructions for the Third Temple in Ezekiel 40 through 48? Is there a parallel here?
The 3rd Temple?
Why all those chapters in Ezekiel describing and emphasizing over and over the importance of the “pattern and form” of the Temple? The “Ordinances” of God regarding the appointments, the component parts of the Temple are to be strictly observed. You know the familiar example of King David’s first and failed attempt to bring back the Ark. The way he sought to do it was “politically correct” but not according to God’s instructions. It was not to be brought on a man-made new cart with pomp and ceremony, but borne on the shoulders of the priests of God and accompanied with praise and rejoicing. “Hast thou an arm like God? Or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?” (Job 40:9). Man’s political agendas are feeble unless built on this foundation.
In the Revelation when the 7th angel sounds, the Kingdoms of this world “are becoming [doesn’t happen all at once] the Kingdom of the Lord and His Messiah shall reign for ever and ever.”
Verse 7 is proof the 7 thunders have to do with culminating the mystery. “But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished.”
What are those hidden secret thunderous voices which are part of the mystery coming to light during the 7th angel sounding? The mystery is finished, completely revealed, by the time the 7th angel begins to sound. So they start unfolding during the time of the 6th.
In other words the mystery’s revelation – the 7 sacred voices of thunders – are simultaneous with and connected to ¾ or on the wake of ¾ the tribulation of Revelation 9:11-21 when one third of men are destroyed. If Ezekiel’s Temple chapters 40-44 and his description of the end-time War of Gog are in chronological order, then there is a parallel to the book of The Revelation’s hidden (‘till the end time) seven voices of thunder. The revelation of the King and His Kingdom are symbolized in the 7 thunderous voices which will reveal the mystery. What are they?
Job pondered this mystery: “Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of His power who can understand?” (Job 26:14).
When something is “hidden” it cannot be understood until it is found. When there is a “mystery”, only the solving of it can rest the mind. Therefore, these 7 hidden, mysterious voices of thunder are intriguing. Whether the following is a revelation of truth and knowledge or the product of my inquisitive mind ¾ God knows. But will you consider with me: Could the 7 thunderous voices of The Revelation be representative of the 7 chief components of the Temple ordinances? What was the pattern and form of the House of God’s Presence and His Torah Center, The Temple Mount where He put His name forever?
(1) Priesthood; (2) Brazen Altar; (3) Laver (connected with the waters of Ezekiel 47?); (4) Table of Showbread; (5) Incense Altar; (6) Lampstand; (7) The Ark of the Covenant.
Most of these are spoken of, or hinted at, in the Ezekiel passage. Does the actual Temple of God ¾ the “pattern” and “form” which Moses saw on the Mount of God ¾ interface in the Messianic Age with the earthly Third Temple to the point it leaves no doubt what Messiah did when He emptied Himself to become The Lamb of God, and then the High Priest at the right hand of God? Is He not described in Ezekiel as the Prince whose function is both Ruler and Priest? He alone comes and goes by the same (the Eastern) Gate for He is “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Only the Messiah can explain the 3rd Temple’s meaning. Only He can produce its virtual functions. In the vernacular, only He can pull off these feats.
No Replacement Theology There!
Ezekiel goes on to say that the “Prince” will give of his inheritance to His sons (who are manifested as sons by His grace). These will not take away the inheritance of Judah (Ezekiel 46:18). Psalm 2 tells us what His inheritance is: “Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession” (Psalm 2:8). And in Psalm 82:8, “Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.”
For what purpose on earth is the Temple? Four “R’s” are depicted here: first of all, Repentance, which bring the Revelation of Redemption and Restoration – BECAUSE, “Salvation is of the Jews.” This declaration was by Yeshua – Jesus, whom countless millions already embrace as the Redeemer of all. The cleansing that comes by visiting the brazen laver (No. 3 above) wipes off smudges and dirt on the windows of our understanding. This not only lets the Light pour in, but the warm rays of His Spirit which warms our whole being.
This one thing I know: God’s Messiah will come and set up His Kingdom. Then ALL the mysteries, ALL the hidden things, ALL the “secret places of thunder” shall be open for all the world to see and understand. Then worship of Him will be the natural result.
“Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire” (Isaiah 29:6). And “The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall He thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and He shall give strength unto His King, and exalt the horn of His Anointed” (I Samuel 2:10).
Can’t wait? Neither can I, so let’s pull together to cancel lies with truth, to build where there is destruction, to love where there is hate, to have compassion where there is hurting. In the simple words of the prophet, let us right now PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD.
And the first step is personal tshuvah – repent, turn away from our anti-Torah life styles, and return to the gratifying paths of righteousness. Let’s heed the words of the Prophet Haggai to go up to the mountain and build the Temple of the Lord – a LIGHTHOUSE TO THE WORLD.
“…for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people” (Isaiah 56:7). Three of the Gospels record that Jesus quoted this verse! Will we be hearers only? -
