Rock of Ages

“Upon this rock will I build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

This was spoken at Caesarea Philipi where there are beautiful waterfalls. Our tour groups always visit this place. There, in response to Christ’s question, “Whom do YOU say I am?”, Peter replied, “Thou art the Christ [Messiah] the Son of the living God” (vs. 15 & 16).

Do you know Who He is? Do you know Him? The Son of the Living God came to seek and save the lost sheep of the house of Israel – lost among the Gentiles. Jew and Gentile alike have wandered off the paths of God’s righteous laws floundering around in our own and others’ contrived laws that leave us shackled in bondage of sin, wondering what in the world is wrong.

Is it too simple to follow the Manual, God’s Word for the man He created? Do we consult it only when all else fails? Do we consider ourselves above the Law? Why was Israel scattered in the first place?

The trumpet is sounding clearly today and its sweet calling notes cry, “Return to the Old Paths. Return to the Shephard and Bishop of your souls.”

“Return” means to repent of disobedience and transgression. There is no other path to restoration. Many, many are in deep trouble, heartache and oppression, lonely and tired of the world’s race to achieve fame and fortune. His Word and His Spirit are calling, “Come to Me, for My yoke is easy.” His Laws are NOT grievous (I John 5:3).

However, if you turn a deaf ear, continue on in your selfish lifestyle, seeking after pleasure and fulfillment in transgressions of God’s righteous laws, judgement is sure to fall and you will be cut off from the land of the living. And more: even now the pleasure and fulfillment you seek will escape your grasp, for the wages of sin is death.

Will you turn around – right now – and let not another day go by without enjoying fellowship with Him Who created you and gave His Son to restore you to Him? The Rabbi of Nazareth will reveal the God of Israel to you, and you will be amazed at the peace and joy within you.   -
