Israeli Telescope to be Launched – An Israeli telescope is to be launched on an Indian rocket [early this year], the Hindustan Times reported. Costing $15 million, the telescope is developed by Electro Optics Industrial, “to solve some astrophysical questions, including star formation, history of galaxies and the physics of giant black holes, and could steer the Hubble Space Telescope to selected interesting objects followed up in detail with a larger space facility,” the sources said.
GM Wants Night Vision Camera – Elbit Systems, an Israeli company, has received $250,000 from General Motors toward developing a night-vision camera based on Elbit's technology. The camera would be installed in cars GM makes. The night vision system is to improve visibility at night and under inclement conditions enhance safer driving. If successful it should replace the models now installed on GM's top vehicles.
Ford Announces New Funding Guidelines – In a stunning reversal, the Ford Foundation admitted it erred in funding anti-Israeli Palestinian groups. An extraordinary expose on the Ford Foundation's financial support for Arab Palestinians appeared in the Jewish Press (11/21/03). The Ford Foundation is identified as a long-time supporter of Yasir Arafat, the PLO and other Arab/Muslim organizations. Some books were written on this deeply researched subject, revealing Henry Ford's admiration of Hitler and his visits with him. Ford often used and distributed the hate filled, Russian forgery called, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Will John Ashcroft (US Justice Department) investigate these incidents?? The “Patriot Act” prohibits fund-raising or transferring funds to terrorist organizations. What other industrial groups also have arranged charitable trusts to terrorists supported by tax-deductible funds?
Australian Peace Prize Goes to Ashrawi Despite Objections – A decision to hand Australia's only international peace prize to a controversial Palestinian figure has triggered a community dispute. Hanan Ashrawi is a former spokeswoman for the PLO and minister of Arafat's self-rule authority. She is considered a devious apologist for violence and one of Israel's most cunning enemies. Australia's Prime Minister, John Howard, indicated he does not consider Ashrawi an appropriate choice.
The Labor premier of Australia's most populous state, New South Wales, Bob Carr, has rejected appeals not to present the award to Ashrawi.
An Australian military officer serving coalition forces in Iraq said that awarding the prize to her would legitimize terrorism. The Australian officer said it would be hard to explain to a soldier in Iraq who has just lost his legs in a terrorist attack why a politician in a country that was “supposedly an ally in this war” has in effect been “comforting the enemy.”
THE INTERNATIONAL JERUSALEM POST
Blame the Brits – On the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, Palestinians through the West Bank and Gaza Strip marched in the streets and held rallies to condemn the role Britain played in the establishment of Israel. (In 1917 British foreign secretary, Arthur Balfour, supported a “national home” for Jews.) They are demanding that Britain apologize (officially) to Palestinians. Arabs living in Britain are called to put pressure on the British government.
An Israeli Rival to the Suez Canal? – Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will build a railway between Ashdod and Eilat, allowing ships that dock at the Red Sea port to transfer goods to the ports of Ashdod and Haifa and from there to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, breaking the monopoly of the Suez Canal. Big ships arriving from the Far East are now forced to transfer their goods by land to an Egyptian port on the Mediterranean, from which they are moved to Europe. “We can link the Mediterranean with the Red Sea” said Netanyahu, “and Israel will serve as a bridge between Asia and Europe. “If you don't invest in Israel today, you will lose a lot,” the finance minister said. He added that when all reforms are completed, Israel will become one of the “freest markets in the world.”
Accounting for Arafat – An investigative report on CBS's 60 minutes program revealed Arafat has squirreled away nearly $1 billion in public funds to ensure his political survival. Lesley Stahl also discovered that Arafat was transferring $100,000 a month out of the Palestinian budget to his wife, Suha, who lives a lavish life in Paris. Arafat was the subject of another damning documentary by the BBC revealing he was paying $50,000 monthly to gunmen of a group responsible for suicide attacks against Israel.
Israeli Architect Designs WTC Memorial – A design consisting of two reflecting pools and a paved stone field was chosen for the World Trade Center memorial. The “Reflecting Absence” memorial, created by Michael Arad was chosen by a 13-member jury of artists, architects, civic and cultural leaders.
BRIDGES FOR PEACE
Colorful Bedouin – The Bedouin (Arab) tribe of the village of Segev Shalom live in tents and temporary buildings. Though the Israeli government has built stone and concrete houses for the Bedouin, they use them for storage and shelter for their flocks. The mayor invited members of Bridges for Peace and several local Arabs to a banquet. Mayor Muamar's father (97 years old) is very sharp minded, married six times and has 54 children (27 girls & 27 boys) and 300 grandchildren. In Islam a man is allowed four wives at the same time. Hospitality in the Arab world is second to none. It is polite to offer a choice tidbit from ones plate to a neighbor. The only women present were the guests. Bedouin women may not appear when there are strangers unless their husband approves, and only with faces covered. Women are considered a part of man's life that he does not discuss.
Egyptians to Sue Jews for “Trillions” Stolen in Exodus – The Egyptian weekly Al-Ahram Al-Arabi featured an interview with Dr. Nabil Hilmi, dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Al-Zaqaziq who together with a group of Egyptian expatriates in Switzerland is preparing an enormous lawsuit against “all Jews of the world and Jews of Israel in particular.” According to Halmi, the Bible confirms that Jews stole gold, jewelry, cooking utensils and clothing when they made their clandestine way out of Egypt where they had been hosted “unwillingly.” He suggested a compromise solution whereby the value of the goods (stolen) would be repaid over 1,000 years with interest. (Editor’s Note: A later word reveals the matter has been dropped. The Jews could counter-sue for being made slaves!)
NEAR EAST REPORT
Syria Sanctions – Both (US) House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to pass the “Syria Accountability Act” legislation, authorizing sanctions against Damascus until it ceases its support for terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and allowing terrorists to cross the borders into Iraq and attack US troops.
The 11 Principles of the IDF Code of Conduct – Israel Defense Forces operate under strict rules of conduct and soldiers are penalized for transgressions. The 11 Principles of the IDF Code of Conduct are:
The fawda (anarchy) is running rampant in the territories, notwithstanding Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia’s statements about the need to fight it. Palestinian sources as well as Israeli intelligence sources report a continued deterioration in the situation, and even the meager achievements of the summer’s hudna (cease-fire) are crumbling rapidly. The West Bank is dominated by armed gangs which no longer fear the Palestinian Authority’s security forces. . . The mayor of the local council of Arabe, a Palestinian town west of Jenin, resigned with his council members, after gun-toting militants ordered him to do so. . . Thugs cut off the ears of an administrator in Bir Zeit University (near Ramallah) to dissuade him from firing workers. . . In Jenin and Nablus [Biblical Shechem] militias are engaged in both criminal and terrorist activity. They extort protection fees from merchants and kidnap business people to supplement their income. They threaten political activists in an attempt to squeeze benefits from the PA.

Bits & Pieces – Albanian and Hebrew University archaeologists have uncovered “impressive remnants” of a 1,600-year-old synagogue in the southern city of Saranda…Israel and South Korea are about to sign a mutual tourism cooperation agreement. It is expected that direct flights between Tel Aviv and Seoul, discontinued eight years ago, will begin again…Tourism to Israel from the USA increased 24% in the first nine months of 2003.
World News Roundup – The Croatian government plans to buy land in Austria and build a monument to honor thousands of Croat Nazi troops and civilians who were killed in the aftermath of WW2. These troops fled after the war into Austria in fear of reprisals, but were eventually sent back to Yugoslavia where thousands were killed by anti-fascists.
Antisemitism is on the rise on U.S. Campuses Textbooks widely used in New York's Islamic schools contain passages against Jews and Christians, claiming that so many live such immoral lives that lying, pornography, foul-language, premarital sex, homosexuality, and everything else is accepted in their society, churches and synagogues.
One Holocaust denier was able to secure space for two weeks at the Marshfield Wisconsin Public Library for a pro-Nazi exhibit. She boasts of her long record of successfully using newspapers to print her ideology and public access TV to air videos of this hatred.
Actor Mel Gibson has funded and produced a film of the last six hours of the life of Jesus Christ in which he “tells the truth” that the Jews are responsible for his [Jesus] death…His father, Hutton Gibson, is a notorious Holocaust denier who claims the World Trade Center was destroyed by remote control and not by al Qaeda.
The notion that the Jews killed Christ has fanned the flames of Antisemitism for the last 2,000 years and paved the way for the wanton slaughter of Jews.
Editor – The list is long of recent Jew-hate rhetoric and acts in England and Europe, especially France, who “has lost its moral compass and can no longer distinguish between her NATO allies and Saddam's terrorist Fedayeen and Republican Guard Units….” (Rabbi Marvin Hier) Write us at Bible Light for your copy of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” Fact or Fraud. $7 pp.
